Accessible to the mainland by a high-rise, fixed, concrete bridge is Ocean Isle Beach, a southern facing barrier island with 7 miles of wide sugar sand beaches on the blue-green waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
Ocean Isle Beach is centrally located between historic Wilmington, North Carolina 40 miles to the north and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 30 miles to the south.
Recreational activities include 36 world class golf courses within 15 minutes of Ocean Isle Beach, with 76 conveniently located along the Grand Strand.
Shell searching, walking, and tanning are the activities
of the day on our pristine beaches, while sailing, kayaking, canoeing,
and scuba diving can be enjoyed in the Intracoastal Waterway or the
Atlantic Ocean.
Fish the surf, pier, and waterway for great inshore
action, or if you prefer, just a short distance off shore offers world
class catches of king fish, bill fish, red snapper, grouper, mahi mahi,
and tuna, just to name a few.
Ocean Isle Beach airport features a 4,000 foot lighted
runway to service general aviation. Major air carrier access is available in
either Wilmington or Myrtle Beach International Airport only 45 minutes
from the beach.
Brunswick County offers quality public education.
Union Elementary, Shallotte Middle, Jesse Mae Monroe Elementary, Virginia Williamson Elementary, and West Brunswick
High School are all within 5 minutes of the beach. Brunswick Community
College and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington offer continuing
education, both within 40 minutes of the Island.
Brunswick Community Hospital and New Hanover Regional
Medical Center offer fine medical care within easy reach. Brunswick
County is the second fastest growing county in the state. From 1979
to 1999, property values have increased at an average of 12.61% annually.
Property taxes are based on $0.690 per $100 of assessed value (taxes
on a $100,000 property would be $825 annually.
The Town of Ocean Isle Beach is incorporated with
an elected governing body. Ocean Isle Beach has municipal water and
sewer, unique to the South Brunswick Islands. Ocean Isle has a fully
equipped fire and rescue squad, which have earned the distinguished
Class 4 rating, as well as a municipal police department with 911 service.
